Team Purse and Retention Rules Each franchise has a total budget of 120 crore. This year, teams were allowed to retain six players through direct retention and RTM (Right to Match) cards in various combinations. A team can retain up to five capped players and two uncapped players.
Teams that retained all six players (KKR and RR) will not have an RTM option.
Right-To-Match (RTM) Rule The RTM rule makes a comeback this season. Teams can match the winning bid to retain their former players. However, this time, the winning team can increase their bid once before the previous franchise decides to use RTM.
Example:
- If Player X is bought for ₹5 crore, the first bidding team can raise it to ₹10 crore. The previous team then has to decide whether to match the new bid or let the player go.
RTMs Available for Each Team:
- CSK: 1 (Any player)
- DC: 2 (1 uncapped & 1 capped, or both capped)
- RCB: 3 (1 uncapped & 2 capped, or 3 capped)
- LSG: 1 (Capped)
- PBKS: 4 (Capped)
- MI: 1 (Uncapped)
- SRH: 1 (Uncapped)
- GT: 1 (Capped)
Purse Remaining After Retentions

IPL Auction 2025
What is the Accelerated Auction? Though 577 players are registered, not all will be auctioned. The accelerated process starts from player 117 onwards. On the first day, franchises will submit a list of preferred players for bidding. The remaining unsold players may get another chance in a final accelerated round.
Silent Tie-Breaker Bid If two teams bid their entire budget for a player, a silent bid is conducted. The team offering the highest amount secures the player. Any extra amount above their purse will be paid to BCCI, with no limit.
The IPL Auction 2025 promises to be thrilling with big names and strategic bidding. Teams will compete hard to build a strong squad. Stay tuned for more updates!
